Thats not even a joke, thats a serious offence in my books! I've been quiet for too long (quiet in the submitting department that is) and its time to hit back with a vengeance.
Heres a side story - whilst I was putting the final touches to my Calendar piece, my tablet decided to stop recognizing my pc, or vica versa. I tried different USB ports and different pc's to no avail - so I wrote it off and left it on top of my pc tower. Then one day my cat decided to sit on it, make it fall off and proceeded to do a dance on it in midair. Then I put it into my cupboard and cried. Recently, I thought I'd try it again and funnily enough, my pc recognized it, but no movement still. Quick change of a battery and a new dose of inspiration and I'm so happy to be back! I had been doing traditional stuff, but I really wanted to get these off my chest.
My interpretation of Spiderman came third after Hulk and Daredevil and I was getting to the point where I needed to start drawing characters interacting with environments and to push my attempts at perspective (which is rusty) a little further than my last pieces. Add a dash of more apocalyptic dystopia, a sprinkle of more darkness, a teaspoon of cinnamon (because I love it so) and thats how this piece was conceived.
As before, this was my rendition of Spidey... given the cruelness of the environment, I wanted to try portray him in a vigilante ninja-esque fashion, with a little less compassion for the lowly thug. I changed the way he shoots his web in order to emphasize the more claw-like grasping out towards the thug, as I felt it was a stronger hand gesture, so please don't mention how I got it wrong - I changed it on purpose. I also wanted to add a sort of living element to his webs; so it kinda wraps, binds and chokes on its own accord like a web-like python, also making that part of him more sinister.
Unfortunately, when these were scanned down at a photo shop on an A3 scanner, I felt they lost alot of the depth and contrast that were present on the original pieces. Therefore I had to practically paint over alot of areas to bring back that rich blackness and enhance lights. Plus, there were some things that I felt like it needed only after I gave the dude my originals.
Hope you all enjoy - next up (and not after a long wait like before) Wolverine...my fave of the bunch
IN BEFORE: - I'm sure the perspective is off in some spots again, still trying to get used to this perspective thing - Will experiment more, trust me...I dig it.
- Again, the hand and the webs - whilst I don't want to offend the Spiderman fans out there, this was a personal take on the character. Like I mentioned, I took liberties because I was encouraged to do so.
- The style I used on the buildings wasn't too much of a good idea and I think the slit like openings gives the illusion that Spiderman is bigger than the buildings or something on those lines. Doh.
So deep and dark... It reminds me a Spidey version of White Wolf's "World of Darkness" Role Play games! It's darn amazing, and finally someone that likes the touch of Cinnamon on everything. Like moi. YAAAR!!!!! Awesomelly done, good sir, you amazed me again with your pencil skills.
